a stunning safari
last week ended with a amazing sighting...On Saturday afternoon, we headed out
for our usual game drive/sundowner..and just after spotting a couple of zebra
and some elephants we were going to turn around and head for the vlei to watch
the sun go down, when David spotted the wild dogs! So we watched these for a
while and after about 10 minutes they decided it was time to get up and head
out..so we followed them for a bit and then decided to go up to the top of a
little hill to see if we could see them from there. We got out of the vehicle
and walked a short while and there they were..and there was a lone wildebeest
and so the wild dogs started to chase the wildebeest which is quite a big animal
for them to chase but still worth a try. When all of a sudden the wildebeest
changed direction and came straight for our little group standing on the hill,
we all had our hearts in our mouths as the pack of 12 wild dogs came after this
wildebeest straight for us! It finally saw us and changed direction to go past
us about 20 meters away from us! Phew what a sighting!!
April 12
All well here, a
very fun safari last week, with about 200mls of rain which is most of our annual
rainfall we had some very exciting times! Despite the weather guests had lots
of fun. A lovely leopard sighting from horseback and about 250 elephants
crossing the Pitsani river which actually had water in it were the highlights of
the week. Also a very unusual sighting of a python killing a young impala and
starting to eat it slowly.
The sun is out
again and we look forward to seeing our new guests later today...
November 17
Our guests had
wonderful sightings on the horses last week... their first morning out they saw
the pride of lions chasing off the new lioness in town and the cubs were hiding
in bushes right near them! The following day they saw the lions again. They also
saw leopard twice on horseback this week! And guests had a fabulous canter with
giraffe.
November 3rd
A fantastic final
Tuli for 2009, leopard from horseback, a lovely sighting of the leopard on the
rocks close to Main Camp...plus lion in the vlei, with lots of eland and
wildebeest around so quite exciting...Also leopard and lion again from the game
drive...No rain as yet so its still very dry and dusty, altough clouds are
building up and it should rain shortly!
October 26
A great Tuli ride
was had by all last week, good sightings especially of a huge haeyena from
horseback, also african wild cat, marshall eagles and the first of the elands
has started dropping their calves; some very wobbly legs out there at the
moment..and of course elephants, and this time just lion from the game drive too..
October 18
A good Big 5,
guests enjoyed some great haeyena sightings in the Limpopo River which has
amazingly only just dried up now. As well as plentifull elephants, lion from the
game drive and some lovely warm evenings with gorgeous sunsets..It is building
up to a good rain here with hot and quite humid weather but we hope it holds out
until our last 2 Tulis are over!!
October 6th
A little more
rain here to settle the dust and keep all the mammals happy...and good sightings
to complete the Big 5 rides of leopard jumping from tree to tree, lion making a
half hearted attempt to catch a giraffe and plenty of ellie and plains game too...
June 1st
A super week on
safari, plenty of sightings and lovely sunny days with cooler nights. It seems
the wild dogs are denning close to Liana camp again this year and are due to pup
in the next week or two..
Below id a
picture taken by a guest last week of Cor and Harvey jumping a log...

May 4
This week started
with the most amazing introductory ride I have ever been on. After doing our
test canter individually with two giraffe watching us, we set of at a canter and
had 21 giraffe cantering on our right and a big herd of wildebbest on our left,
as we pulled up there was black backed jackal sitting in front of us and ostrich
on the horizon. Not even 10 minutes later we all got a good sighting of a
leopard crossing our path about 20 metres in front of us!! That was a hard to
beat 1 hour ride!!! The rest of the week was also excellent with leopard again
on the drive, and a huge herd of elephant on the thursday morning.
April 28
Attached this
weeks availability. A great week for Cor and David on safari. Canters with
wildebeest, zebra and giraffe. Plenty of giraffes which are becoming more and
more relaxed by the minute with the horses around and leopard from the game
drive as well as a lioness on the last evening sundowner drive.....Its getting
cooler at night with lovely sunny days and lots of old grass around too so still
lots to eat for the game..
February 23
Attached this weeks availability. A good start to this weeks Big 5 ride, nice
ellie sightings, a huge phyton and tons of giraffes! As you can see its still
lush and altough the yellow devils thorn flowers have faded we have the lovely
purple cats tails to remind us its still summer!
February 16
A good week on
safari numerous highlights including being surrounded by about 200 elephants one
morning, very close up sightings of giraffe, eland, kudu, haeyena, and lovely big
herds of impalas. Its still very lush here and surprisingly cool for this time
of year, so looks like we might have a cool winter ahead!
November 30
A fantastic week to finish our season....a fabulous group and plenty of game too.
I think the highlight was wild dog on a impala kill from horseback but the rides
also saw lions on two days as well as numerous elephants, very relaxed and close
up Haeyna. From the game drives guests saw badger which is rare, the wild dogs
again, leopards, lions and of course all the plains game too...
We were lucky
enough to have a excellent horse physiotherapist here this week and he managed
to re-align all the horses backs so the horses are all happy and relaxed as they
start their 6 week holiday.
October 27
A very good week
on safari..of which the highlight was probably seeing a lioness lying with his
legs up in the air against a tree from horseback! Luckily West spotted the ears
twitching otherwise she could easily have been mistaken for an odd log! As she
was a mere 50m away the ride did a quick about turn and left quietly before she
could wake up and see the horses! Otherwise good leopard from the game drive,
and lots of ellies as usual..
No rain yet,
altough its been very hot and then these last few days quite cool again. October 13
West and Mpho had
an excellent 4 days of safari last week; a lioness whilst leaving the Two
Mashatus camp in the morning, cheetah from horseback from Zederberg to Liana,
leopard and cheetah again from the game drive and a big male lion from horseback
on the way back to Two Mashatus..We have decided to nickname West the Cheetah
man as he has seen so many this month! It is getting hot at times with temps up
to 40 degrees at lunch time but with some cool nights and the occasional
overcast day too..
September 22
This week started
with a spectacular elephant sighting. After the initial getting to know you with
our new guests and their horses, we rode to the banks of the Limpopo and as we
stood there we watched what must have been 100 plus elephants crossing the river
in front of us. Some of them then came to drink water right under us as our
horses grazed on the bank..Spectacular! An exciting last night with lions around
the Two Mashatus camp and an exhilerating last ride to our new paddocks and
stables to finish off the week...
August 29
A spectacular
safari so far...The first evening on the drive to our Two Mashatus camp, Cor
stopped to see some elephants by the Dam wall and then saw five lions on his
other side..a amazing sighting which got even better when the lions started
roaring all around them...to top it all the following morning as they were
leaving camp three lionesses walking coolly past the vehicle..needless to say
none of our guests are going to wander to far from the group on this week!
It is getting
warmer now and we all feel that summer is just around the corner with a few
afternoons of 30 plus degrees..
August 22
A good few days
on safari; plenty of good sightings of ellies, bat eared fox, kudus, eland,
giraffe, zebra and some nice sightings of yellow billed storks and the woolly
necked stork. I also had the good fortune to encounter the wild dogs last night,
returning from a hack I came around the corner was suddendly surrouned by these
special dogs. I had Lucy the little jack russell with me so had to hop off very
quickly pick her up otherwise she would have been dog food! Much to our amazment
these dogs then killed a impala last night inside our lunge arena..the horses were
all surprised and had a good look at it this morning!
August 8
Monday at Jwala
camp the elephants came and paraded along the oposite river bank giving everyone
a excellent photo opportunity..More spectacular elephant sightings at Kgotla,
three diffrent familys of 20 each, and some mating too! And then on the way to
Liana, our guests came across a baby giraffe leftin a bush until his mum came
back, probably about a week old..very cute...And last night a great game drive
with very relaxed lions on a eland they just killed.
